Arriving May 28, 2024…
As a free subscriber to this newsletter, you'll receive on alternating Tuesdays 1) our regular S&S Roundup, which provides the latest news and links related to contemporary sword and sorcery and 2) a Swords & Heroes adventure sent straight to your inbox, what I'm calling Swords & Heroes E-Zine.
Story #1 arrives May 28, and what a tale it is! Get ready for “A Hiss from the Mound” by B. Harlan Crawford. This story is set in early Native/Colonial America with a splash of piracy, romance, and Lovecraftian horror. Perfect to kick off our new project.
Then get ready for the arrival of more stories every two weeks: exciting pulp adventures and swashbuckling tales from other great writers like Matt Hilton, Charles Gramlich, Geoffrey Hart, David A. Riley, Tim Hanlon, Chris Hall, and more!
You too can submit a story for consideration. Here are the guidelines. Submission window for this volume closes June 30, 2024. Later this fall or winter we’ll release a “Best of…” collection. In the meantime, you can grab your own copy of the first volume of Swords & Heroes - A Sword and Sorcery Anthology on Amazon.
Become a Barbarian Backer!
Want to support the writers and contributors to these pages? Couple ways. You can always subscribe to this project here. Different levels - $5/month or $50/year. As a backer, you’ll get access to some “in-between” projects that aren’t available on the free plan. e.g., Each month, I’ll post a link to an e-book or two that you can download.
Or, you can “Tip the Author” through PayPal, Venmo, or a Debit/Credit Card. ResAliens Press (my PayPal biz name) will then send the author 100% of the tip amount (net, after PayPal takes their dang fees). You can tip them Coffee Money ($2), Lunch Money ($5), or Book Money ($10). (grin) No obligation, of course.
Finally, you can show your support of the various authors by purchasing a book or two from them online. If their projects are on Amazon or B&N, I’ll provide the links, or mention their websites and you can buy direct, if that’s an option. I’m really wanting this to be about the writers as we grow the audience for more S&S tales.
But Best of All? Comments Are Open!
What’s cool about doing this e-zine via Substack is that you can “like” and comment on each of the stories. I would encourage this, actually. Share with the author what you enjoyed about his or her piece. Ask questions, share ideas, start a conversation. Keep it positive, keep it (relatively) clean, but keep it real.
That’s about it. And spread the word, by Crom, about Swords & Heroes, the E-Zine: “Sword & Sorcery One Story at a Time.”
Thanks for reading! - Lyn Perry, editor/publisher Tule Fog Press.
Excited for this project!!
Just saw this pop up on the substack.com/browse/fiction page ... exciting. I assume the "no reprints" guideline means you want work that has not yet been published anywhere, including here on our own substacks?
