Very enjoyable read! My words won't do justice so as John once said, "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends", echoing also statements from Roosevelt, Mandela, Twain, and Plato basically that "Courage is not an absence of fear but a willingness to let faith take".
Another evocative setting coupled with an atmosphere of impending danger. I really enjoyed the setup and the character Gulgoleht. The story took quite a metaphysical/metaphorical bent once Gulgoleht slid into the darkness, turned to more of a battle of the mind rather than the will as prior to that point. As such it lost some of its shine for me. I would read more of Gulgoleht.

A very thoughtful comment! Thank you. "Remember, no man is a failure who has friends."
True words indeed!
Great story. A lot packed into 4000 words.
I felt so too! It pulled me in.
Thanks! I tend to include lots of ideas/themes in most of my stories, for better or worse.

Me too!
Thank you! I'll keep your words in mind for the next tale.
Packed with glorious, dark imagery. I read that but saw it play out like an animated movie, drawn by Frazetta no less, in my mind's eye.
Thanks for reading and commenting! I can see it as a short film for sure!
